FORMER LICENSEE – Sympathy is extended to Mr James Yates of
115a Astbury – street, Congleton, in the loss he has sustained by the death on
Friday last, after a brief illness, of his wife, Mrs. Eliza Yates. She was 59
year of age. For 10 years Mr Yates held the license of the “Lord Nelson” Inn,
Brook-street, Congleton, and for the past 14 years had been the licensee of the
“Swan Inn”, Biddulph. On his retirement only six weeks ago, Mr and Mrs Yates
returned to Congleton and tool up residence in Astbury-street. The funeral was
at St Johns Church, Buglawton, on Monday, the Vicar, the Rev. H. W. Meakin,
performing the last rites. The mourners were: Mr. J. Yates, widower; Miss A.
Yates, Miss J. Yates, daughters; Mrs W. Tomlinson, Mrs W. Swindlehurst, Mrs G.
Thorley, Mrs F. Lancake, sisters; Mr and Mrs Alf Knapper, Mr and Mrs Arthur
Knapper, brothers and sisters-in-law; Mrs Hackney, Mrs Beech, Mrs J. Skerratt,
Mr and Mrs Joe Yates, Mr and Mrs Abel Yates, Mr and Mrs Charles Yates,
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Mrs W. Radcliffe, neice; Mr and Mrs F.
Barlow, Mr H. Walton, Mr S. Higginson, Mr A. Hilditch, Mr T. Goodwin, Mrs W.
Beech, Mr James Cotterill. The bearers were Messrs. Arthur Knapper, brother;
George Skerratt, brother-in-law; W. Radcliffe, nephew; Samuel Hayden; Arthur
Holland and H. Radford.
Messrs C. Axson and Sons, Park Hill, Congleton, had charge
of the funeral arrangements.
