John Walter Doorbar born 2nd June 1875 at The Commercial Inn, Bredbury, the son of John Doorbar and Susan formerly Stevenson who immigrated to the USA at the age of 21. He crossed the Atlantic via Cunard Lines on the R.M.S. Etruria. The passenger list describes him as Mr Walter Donbar, a 2nd class cabin passenger from Liverpool to New York and Boston via Queenstown May 30th 1896.

John was an accomplished tenor singer. During the voyage he was listed on the Concert programme as singing "Song that reached my heart".

John lived at first in Worcester, Massachusetts. John Walter was a meat cutter, having served his apprenticeship in England. He worked for the Worcester (Mass.) branch of the Public Market chain later moving to Providence, Rhode Island, and finally for the New England Grocery of the same chain until his death in 1940.

 

   
John married Miriam Walsh on the 5 November 1906.
